Santa Rosa Junior College Student Government Assembly discussed the upcoming shutdown of the MySRJC app and its potential impact on this year’s student election campaigns during its meeting on April 7.
SRJC Director of Student Engagement and Support Services Michelle Vidaurri spoke via Zoom to discuss the MySRJC App shutdown and transition to a new student information-focused platform.
SGA Vice President of Clubs Andrew Simmalaychah raised concerns that the closure of MySRJC would limit students’ campaign options during the most competitive student election season in at least a decade, with 28 candidates running for various positions.
“I think running through the election season for y’all is a good one,” Vidaurri said. “So I would say, if others agree, that after the election season we would work on retiring it.”
The MySRJC App served as an important resource during the pandemic, but the amount of time staff have to spend moderating the social feature of the app has become a “big lift” for the college, Vidaurri said.
The new app, set to go live in October 2026, will have student information, registration and academic records, but no social feature. Students will still be able to ask questions through specific channels but not in an open forum, Vidaurri said.
Near the end of the meeting, members approved spending up to $3200 for a charter bus to transport students between Petaluma and Santa Rosa for the upcoming “We the Future” conference on April 18 and Cubapalooza on April 23.
