The Santa Rosa Junior College Bear Cubs opened up their first conference home game with a defensive showdown in a draw against Consumnes River College on Sept. 26 at Cooks Cypher Field in Santa Rosa.
Neither team’s offense drew up the right play to put them on the scoreboard, leading to SRJC’s [0-0-2], [3-4-3] second straight draw in conference play.
“Resulting in a draw is not such a bad thing. If we can finish out the rest of our conference games, we can make playoffs,” said assistant coach Matt Barbet. “We have to take the positives out of this game. We did not give up a goal and did not lose on the home field.”
Freshman Owen McCabe went down with an apparent leg injury late in the game, he exited and did not return. The coaches said he will be fine.
The Bear Cubs play next at 4 p.m. Sept. 29 in Modesto against Modesto Junior College.
