The Women’ s basketball team was outplayed by Diablo Valley College, losing 70-57 at home, after a pair of wins Jan. 23. The team stands at 9-11, 3-3.
Friday’s game started promising with a back and fourth first half, with a strong effort from sophomore guard Alicia Mehtlan. However, DVC’s 3-point shot kept them in control converting on several outside shots.
Turnovers also caused the Bear Cubs to struggle, halting any offensive rhythm, leaving SRJC trailing 37-30 at half time and going into the locker room looking down.
Looking stagnant starting the second half, the team allowed DVC to go on a run that extended the lead. With a 14-point lead head coach Lacey Campbell called a timeout, where she was visibly upset with the Bear Cubs’ play.
The timeout briefly woke the team up coming back to make it a single-digit game, but DVC’s defense proved to be to much.
The two-three zone caused bad passes and turnovers, leading to easy baskets for the visiting team, ultimately this led to the 70-57 loss.
The team looks forward to redemption Feb. 17 when they play DVC in Pleasant Hill. Before that the Bear Cubs play at 5:30 p.m. Jan. 27 at Haehl Pavilion in Santa Rosa.
