The Women’s basketball team had a stellar season last year, winning SRJC’s first state championship in over 20 years, yet fan support has been anything but stellar.
“I think that the team could use a lot more support from the school as a whole, a lot of the school comes for the guys games and packs it for them, but it’s pretty empty for our games so we make our own energy at home,” star guard Jen Tsurumoto said.
The women’s basketball program at SRJC has earned prestige and respect throughout the state. Players should be rewarded with a strong homecourt advantage when playing at home.
On Feb. 4 the basketball programs will host the annual “Pack the Den Night” when the Diablo Valley College Vikings visit Haehl Pavillon. There will be prizes and a game called “Dash for Cash” at halftime during the men’s game. Contestants will have a chance to win $100 by getting a numbered ticket at the door. Those whose tickets are drawn get to grab all the $1 dollar bills they can off the court in 30 seconds.
“Pack the Den Night” on Feb. 4 begins with the women’s team tipping off at 5:30 p.m. and the men’s team at 7:30 p.m.. Admission is $6 for general, $4 for seniors and students with school I.D., $2 for children and free for A.S. members.
