Santa Rosa Junior College’s wrestling team was shut out on day one of the West Hills Tournament Dual Meet Sept. 27-28, but bounced back on day two.
During dual meets wrestlers can gain points not only for themselves, but for the entire team.
The first meet began Friday night after a long drive and with only 30 minutes from the car to competition. The team was shutout 48-0; nobody placed.
Saturday was dramatically better. The team placed eight out of 10 teams, with two individual placers. Aaron Pen-Kruger, 141 pounds, placed fourth overall, 3-2, with a win by pin. He lost by one point in the semifinals, 8-7.
Jesus Moreno, 125 pounds, placed sixth, winning with a pin, and overall 3-3. Kaden Martin 165 pounds went 2-2 with a pin, just one match away from placing.
The team was missing two key players, Colton Farley, 184-pounder out with the flu and Logan Fore out with an injury.
“Those guys would have bumped us up,” said Coach Kyle Fitzpatrick. “Captains played better this week,” Fitzpatrick said.
