During an unusually hectic Easter production weekend, the Oak Leaf included a graphic on the front cover that the entire staff believes to be inappropriate. The graphic, a cartoon in connection to the rape story, misrepresents the facts of the case and trivializes a very sensitive and serious issue. The graphic was intended for a different story that did not materialize, and the decision to use it in connection to the rape story was made on Sunday night after all but one editor had gone home.
We at The Oak Leaf regret this incident, and apologize for allowing it to happen. In the future, we intend to use our collective discretion, especially when it comes to delicate issues such as this one. As always, letters to the editor are welcome and appreciated.
Sincerely,
The Oak Leaf Staff
