The Santa Rosa Junior College Student Government Assembly appointed two new vice presidents and established a committee to plan an election for a student representative of Polly Hall at its meeting Feb. 10.
SGA members approved a plan to draft amendments to add a new Vice President position of Student Representative for Polly Hall.
Student Body President Ruben Garcia said the students in the dorms deserve support. He hopes to add the position to the upcoming Student Elections this semester as well as have suitable candidates on the ballot.
SGA members elected two new vice presidents, Amy Quintas as vice president of clubs at the Petaluma campus and Cynthia Valdivia as vice president of student life at the Santa Rosa campus.
“I’m excited to bring together Santa Rosa students, connect our community, and have everyone see themself reflected in our campus,” Valdivia said.
Quintas said she hopes to enhance the student life and club growth for the Petaluma campus community.

I very much do agree that they’re 100% should be a VP Rep for Polly Hall, I think it’d very much give students there more empowerment and representation in our Student Gov. However, I would note that, and I’d hope SGA is as well, there is only 1 specific way this position can be added and it isn’t up to the will of just SGA. To create a new Student Gov Position, you’d have to Amend the SGA Constitution which is done Via Referendum in a Election and requires 2/3 of both SGA and 2/3 of the Voting Student Body to Pass. The question that should be asked is, Could the Referendum & a Contingent Election should the Referendum Pass? And that is something that would have to be determined by Admin, though it’s not something that is generally done.
