The Santa Rosa Junior College District Police alerted the college community about an unknown subject pointing a gun at a student on the Petaluma Campus, Wednesday evening.
The subject brandished a firearm outside of the Welcome Center on the Petaluma Campus approximately 130 feet away from the student. When the student used her cell phone to report the incident, the subject fled on foot towards neighboring Leghorn Park.
District Police and the Petaluma Police Department’s response was swift.
“We had a community service officer that was on campus and they went immediately to the victim,” said District Police Chief Robert Brownlee. “We had a police officer that went out from the Santa Rosa campus, and they were down there pretty quickly, but Petaluma PD they were the first on scene.”
The subject was described as a skinny build, unknown race, unknown sex, 5 feet 8 inches to 6 feet —wearing all black clothing with white sneakers.
“We’re kind of focusing a little bit more on the Petaluma Campus for the time being, both with officers and our community service officers,” Brownlee said.
This is an ongoing investigation. District Police encourage the community to say something if they see something. If members of the community have any further information regarding this incident, contact District Police at (707) 527-1000.
