Santa Rosa Junior College’s Student Government Assembly members reminded the SRJC community of the next Club Day event, and discussed other upcoming events, at their Sept. 16 meeting.
SGA approves funds for CCCSAA conference
The SGA approved $12,000 for the California Community College Student Affairs Association conference, a Student Leadership Conference that focuses on networking and student professional development that SGA members have the option to attend.
“I think having a conference that we would have earlier in the year that we could come back to the JC and use all the things we learned for the next semester and the rest of this semester would be very beneficial, so I would support going to this conference,” said Anthony Spinozzi, student trustee.
Student Health Services will be tabling highlighting suicide awareness
The SGA reported that Student Health Services will be tabling, focusing attention on suicide awareness.
The Student Health Peers will be doing the same at the women’s volleyball game Sept. 18 at Haehl Pavilion, as well as at the women’s soccer game Sept. 24 at the Cook Sypher soccer field.
Important information and dates coming up for Santa Rosa and Petaluma campuses
The Hispanic Serving Institution committee put a week’s worth of events together for the first time, which include:
Poet Deyci Carillo’s event from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Sept. 18 at Ellis Auditorium in Petaluma.
The La Bienvenida event from 6-8 p.m. Sept. 18 at the Santa Rosa campus.
Attendees can enjoy lunch and music at noon Sept. 19 in the Bertolini Quad in Santa Rosa.
The Cafe y Pan Dulce event at 9:30 a.m Sept. 20 in the Bertolini Quad in Santa Rosa.
A “meet the therapist” event at 1 p.m. on Wednesday in the lawn near Burbank Auditorium.
Next Club Day
Andrew Simmalaychanh, vice president of clubs in Santa Rosa, reminded students that the next Club Day event will be 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. this Wednesday. The event will feature 42 clubs, and free tacos will be served.
SGA members wanted to advise students to join clubs and be a part of student life, as student enrollment is constantly increasing.
“Student enrollment is growing with a 5.7% increase in credit courses this fall, including a 23% increase at Petaluma,” said Matthew Coronado, vice president of student life in Petaluma.
SGA member appointed to committee
Tiffany Nguyen, vice president of marketing, was appointed by SGA members to the Dean, Language Arts, and Academic Foundations Hiring Committee.
Nguyen said, “I can sympathize with the students, and I know what the essential qualities are that a dean should have in order to support the student.”
