A Santa Rosa Junior College student sustained stab wounds to his abdomen after an altercation outside of Campus Market, across the street from the Santa Rosa campus, on April 7.
It all started when a tall man, the suspect, stopped to buy a sandwich at the Campus Market. The employee at the cash register, Gopal Raut, said the man, who looked to be in his early 20s, was in white clothing. Soon after he left, Raut heard screaming and saw a fight outside. He said he was scared.
Santa Rosa Police Department Sgt. John Cregan said in a phone interview that SRPD received a call from a witness reporting an assault at 4:04 p.m. April 7.
Soon after the man left the market with his sandwich and entered his car, an 18-year-old SRJC student bumped his car door into the suspects’ car.
The occupants of the car began yelling gang challenges at the SRJC student that escalated into a physical fight and ended in a stabbing.
SRPD arrived on the scene to find the victim lying on the ground bleeding from stab wounds to his abdomen. Though the victim was able to give a statement, the suspects are still at large.
SRJC District Police interim chief Robert Brownlee said they responded to the call and assisted SRPD in their investigation.
Sgt. Cregan urges anyone who witnessed the stabbing to report any information to the SRPD Gang Crimes Team at (707) 543-3670. There is a $2,500 reward for anyone with information that leads to the arrest of the suspects.
Raut said the ordeal hurt business. “No one came in [the store] for four hours,” he said.

I too would have been irritated if someone knocked their door into my car. Jerk!
