The Associated Student Senate maneuvered through a myriad of topics during its meeting on April 7, appointing a new vice president and planning upcoming events.
Hannah Bockley resigned from vice president of committees position due to illness. The senate approved Cheri McLean as the new vice president of sustainability. The position will grant McLean better access to resources she needs to complete projects left by the previous vice-president of sustainability, Hunter Share.
Senate members will represent SRJC at the Spring General Assembly by Student Senates for California Community Colleges in Los Angeles. There, senators will participate in leadership workshops and discuss and vote upon resolutions brought to the meeting by senates from colleges from the nine other regions in California. SRJC represents region three.
Though the assembly is not until May, a budget of $4,600 was discussed. This includes airfare for the senate members and an advisor, hotel costs, food, registration and money in case of emergency.
A representative from Movimiento Estudiatil Chicanista de Aztlan proposed a budget of $1500 for the La Raza Youth Conference on April 26. The money would be put toward providing free bus transportation for students and their parents. The money would also be put toward other supplies needed for the conference.
Other items discussed were an increase in the election coordinator funds and a budget not to exceed $100 for the media tech for Music as a Means.
