Sobering Super Bowl
An SRJC district police officer cited a man for driving under the influence at Coddingtown mall on Feb. 2.
A district police officer on special assignment with the “Avoid the 13” campaigns for Super Bowl Sunday was patrolling when he was instructed to be on the lookout for a DUI suspect in the Whole Foods parking lot in Coddingtown around 11 p.m.
Once on site, the officer noticed a car parked at an odd angle and proceeded to make contact with the subject.
Upon making contact the officer detected the smell of alcohol and saw the subject seemed inebriated and appeared to have red eyes.
The officer conducted a field sobriety test and determined the suspect, Russell Gardiner, 31, was under the influence.
The suspect submitted to a chemical test and had a BAC of .18, more than twice the legal limit.
Gardiner was cited for driving under the influence and was released into the care of a sober subject.
Little Green Lie
An SRJC district police officer arrested a man for possession of marijuana, violation of parole and lying to a peace officer in the Burbank Circle parking lot on Feb. 10.
A district police officer on patrol noticed a sedan going the wrong way down the one-way section of the Burbank Circle parking lot around 7 p.m.
The officer got behind the vehicle and observed that the tags were expired and performed a traffic stop on the vehicle.
The officer made contact and saw an opaque plastic bag with what appeared to be dried vegetable material inside.
The officer questioned the subject about his identity, but the subject said he did not have his driver’s license, proceeded to spell his last name two different ways and was not sure what his birthday was.
The officer searched the vehicle and found documentation identifying the man as Yacob Dain, 28, and more than 3 pounds of marijuana.
Dain was arrested and booked into county jail, where he is being held without bail.
Drinking on Campus
An SRJC district police officer cited two women for drinking alcohol on school property Feb. 11 in the parking lot behind Taco Bell.
An SRJC district police cadet on foot patrol noticed two women consuming Mike’s Hard Lemonade across the street and called a district police officer to make contact around 2 p.m.
The officer arrived and made contact with SRJC students, Kelila Friedland, 24, and Kaleinaipo Fallau, 18, and saw they had alcohol but were not in an intoxicated state.
The officer cited Friedland with possession of alcohol on school property and providing alcohol to a minor.
Fallou was cited with possession of alcohol on school property and being a minor in possession of alcohol.
Both were released.
