At 3 p.m. Oct. 17, Santa Rosa Junior College’s main campus suffered loss of electricity due to an underground failure that caused a full power outage of the nearby area. SRJC’s Santa Rosa campus will be closed until Friday morning, Oct. 18, while PG&E; works on resolving the issue.
After the power went out, classes were dismissed early and cancelled for the remainder of the school day. Entrances to campus were blocked to warn students, and PG&E; was notified of the problem around 4 p.m. while campus police, firemen and crossing guards immediately came to assess affected traffic and technical factors.
SRJC President Dr. Frank Chong explained that “(the) campus will be closed until Friday morning because it is getting dark earlier now, and it is dangerous for students to be walking around when the street lights are out. PG&E; is working on the problem and it will be resolved within a few hours.”
SRJC student Mallori Hensley’s afternoon class was cancelled and she explained, “It pushes back my exam from Tuesday to Thursday so that part worked out perfectly for me. I would have liked to have the lab hours though because now we’re going to be expected to know the material we missed.”
