SRJC will start registration for candidates who wish to run for student government the week after spring break.
The student government seats are up for grabs to students with a 2.5 GPA and are taking at least 5 units per semester. SRJC will hold the voting online April 23-27. “There will be voting stations on both campuses, bribing students with donuts [to vote],” said Jessica Gross, SRJC’s elections coordinator.
To run for a seat in student government, a student needs to fill out the election packet, available at the student affairs office starting on March 27. Election packets are due by 5 p.m. on April 2.
There are ten positions available in student government, Associated Student President, Student Trustee (for SRJC’s board of trustees), Executive Vice President and seven additional vice presidents that oversee various activities in the student government.
Next, the student must attend the Candidate’s Meeting on April 2. This will be an informative meeting for candidates to ask what their responsibilities will be.
Candidates will then have an opportunity to address the community in two assemblies on April 9. The first will be at noon on the Santa Rosa campus in Bertolini, 4608. The second will be at 2 p.m. on the Petaluma campus at the Rotary Plaza.
Student government representatives volunteer their time to fulfill their obligations, but Gross said the experience is well worth it. “You are eligible for scholarships and it looks great on a college application,” Gross said.
Representatives get their own office space in the Bertolini Student Center.
“Run, run, run!” Gross said. “It’s going to be an exciting race.”
If students have any questions about the elections, they can contact Jessica Gross at (707) 527-4571.
