Election day 2024 is finally upon us with a race characterized by close margins and high tension across the country. Presidential candidates Kamala Harris and Donald Trump are neck and neck, with the results hinging on swing-states like Pennsylvania and Georgia.
Like the last two presidential elections, the American population is heavily divided. With this in mind, ballot counting may see longer delays than last election with ballot recounts and a rise in popularity of mail-in ballots.
California propositions such as Proposition 6, Proposition 33 and Proposition 36 are heavily debated and could swing either way. Both Proposition 36 and Proposition 6 deal with issues related to prison labor and drug-related crimes. Proposition 33 repeals housing laws allowing local governments to impose rent controls.
In Sonoma County, the most contentious local measure on the ballot is Measure J. Arguments for and against Measure J are defined by the differing views on animal-cruelty and the impact the measure would have on the local economy.
