Five months after the release of her much anticipated “Sweetener” album, Ariana Grande is set to release her most iconic album to date “Thank U, Next,” this Friday.
The album features controversial song titles such as “Fake Smile,” “Bad Idea” and “Break Up with Your Girlfriend, I’m Bored,” a title that’s generating buzz amongst her Twitter “Stans,” or fanatical followers.
When Grande released her single “Thank U, Next,” fans speculated this was going to be a “diss” track taking shots at her exes. But instead she released the best breakup anthem anyone could’ve asked for.
“Two albums in six months huh. that’s deep. love u. talk sooon,” said Grande on her Twitter account on Jan. 21, commenting about her anticipation of the album’s release.
Grande’s fifth studio album will feature 12 tracks, some of which she has released to promote the album. “Imagine,” “7 Rings” and “Thank U, Next” are some.
Her return to the music scene with the single “Thank U, Next” was Grande’s method of coping with the drama she experienced over the past few months with her past lovers. The song embodies a soft pop vibe with hints of sass. This is obvious with lyrics like “I’m so f*ckin’ grateful for my ex.”
After the loss of her on and off again boyfriend since 2012, Mac Miller, and the failed engagement to comedian Pete Davidson, Grande took a brief hiatus from music.
Just six months later Grande is releasing her second studio album with the same inverted theme from her previous album cover “Sweetener,” which she did after experiencing a lot of trauma in 2017.
“at the time i had been feeling v ‘upsidedown.’” Grande said and explained her new album cover art for “Thank U, Next” by saying “she still upside-down. but this time she kinda ……… f*cks w it lol.”
Grande added “this is my fav album cover i think. brian painted me. fredo shot me. Made with tru, deep friendship and love. just like this music.”
“Thank U, Next” could easily be named her best album to date with some of her singles like “7 Rings” having the No.1 spot in its first week, “Imagine” sitting at No.99 (peaked at No.24), and “Thank U, Next” at No.4 (peaked No.1) according to Billboard.com. With singles like these the album is already destined for success.
The album’s vibe is hard to pinpoint. Her singles have been a mix of “trappy” hip-hop beats with lyrics like “bought matching diamonds for six of my b*tches” and soft lullabies where she sings “me with no makeup, you in the bathtub, bubbles and bubbly, ooh.”
As Grande continues to tease with tweets, like “ten days huh” on Jan. 29 and “i love u. sevennnnn” on Jan. 31, the much anticipated album release has fans itching for new music and with Friday approaching, the wait is nearly over.
