A typical Thai restaurant is plain, cheap and predictable, but Sea Thai Bistro is not a typical Thai restaurant. Sea Thai Bistro recently moved locations to the north side of Montgomery Village. Its new location has an open floor plan, giving it a less tight and intimidating atmosphere. This, coupled with an elegant and atypical take on Thai cuisine, makes it the perfect destination for special occasions and casual date nights. At most Thai restaurants the menu is “ginger this” and “garlic that,” served on a simple plate with rice, cafeteria style. Sea Thai Bistro takes a personal approach to its cooking. Within each dish is an artistic and culinary masterpiece, balanced in flavor, color and variety. The food is spicy, sweet and has an American twist without being “Americanized.” The summer fire chicken with its tangy red curry sauce is great for a hot, late spring day, and the chicken galangal soup, with its coconut milk broth, shimeji mushrooms and cherry tomatoes, is always a crowd pleaser. The ambience in the restaurant is akin to dining in Atlantis, with oceanic low light fixtures and coral colored decor. Seating is close-knit and social, with a bench along one wall that all patrons share while the people they dine with get chairs. The atmosphere is more conducive of group dining than of an intimate one-on-one meal. The service is friendly and attentive, but they often have to yell over the cacophony of sound created by the tight seating. Sea Thai Bistro is a must-go for food lovers in Santa Rosa or anyone who appreciates Thai cuisine and is looking for something new.
